Fairport Pharmacy has a new home.
The business, founded two years ago by Paula Lewyckyj and a former partner, was celebrated recently with a grand opening at a new location in Village Landing. Lewyckyj moved her growing business from North Main Street to a larger space, which includes a new gift department and plenty of parking.
“We desperately needed more space and more parking,” Lewyckyj said. “This new location gives us plenty of both.”
The new store has 2,500 square feet of space — more than three times the size of the former store, which had 780 square feet. Lewyckyj employs three part-time pharmacy technicians and a part-time delivery driver.
Fairport Pharmacy specializes in focusing on individual customer attention and service at competitive prices. In addition, Lewyckyj has expanded the store’s comprehensive retail selection of over-the-counter medications and medical supplies, nutritional supplements, vitamins and natural herbal remedies.
The gift department is managed by veteran retailer Fran Wells of Fairport who has tried to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere to greet customers. The department features local artisans who create goods using organic fiber and products. Included are pottery, paintings, decorative birdhouses, plants, organic lotions and soaps, candles, ironwork, custom-painted mailboxes, and organic items for newborns including powders, lotions and oils, booties and hats.
“We’re aspiring to have a comfortable place for people to come in and be immersed in things that are important to their total well-being,” Wells said, noting the addition to Village Landing completes a circle of shopping in the heart of the village. “It’s once again a shopping hub for your essentials.
Park your car and walk into a butcher (Skips Meats), a grocery (Red Bird Market), a pharmacy, a candy shop (Candy Nation), and a winemaker (Casa Vin Arte), not to mention all the wonderful clothing, jewelry and gift stores, even a music shop, just moments away.”
Opening of the new pharmacy location came almost exactly two years from the day of the grand opening of the original store. Once again, the Fairport Office of Community and Economic Development provided a low-interest commercial loan to help with site work at the new space.
“The loan demonstrates that the OCED board strongly supports a locally owned and independently operated pharmacy in the village,” said OCED Executive Director Kal Wysokowski. “We’re very pleased to play a role in their success.”
Joining Lewyckyj at the grand opening were Fairport Mayor Frederick “Fritz” May and Assemblyman David Koon, D-Perinton, along with co-workers, friends, family and customers.
