Casa Larga Vineyard’s 2006 Vidal Ice Wine was named “best dessert wine” at the International Riverside Wine Competition just two weeks after receiving a similar award from the Pacific Rim competition.
Dan Berger a noted wine journalist that announced the award called Casa Larga’s ice wine “one of the best and most consistent dessert wines produced in the U.S.,” according to a winery release.
In addition to the “Best of Show” Award, Casa Larga’s 2008 Riesling brought home a Chairmans Award, the equivalent of a double gold, from the competition that concluded Friday, May 7.
“Our family and staff are extremely proud to receive continued recognition for our wines,” said Andrea Colaruotolo O’Neill, operations director. “The remarks made by Dan Berger were especially appreciated. It is nice to be acknowledged for the consistent world-class quality of our wines.”
The Perinton winery also recently received news that it was awarded two medals at the 23rd annual Tasters Guild International Wine Judging at the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education in Grand Rapids, April 28-May 1. Casa Larga won a Gold medal for its 2007 Cab Franc Ice Wine and Silver medal for its 2006 Vidal Blanc Ice Wine.
Casa Larga’s 2007 Pinot Noir scored high in the “best bang for your buck” category at the eighth annual Pinot Noir Shootout, by Affairs of the Vine and International Wine Review.
