Long-time beautician Jacquie Olivencia says she’s finally where she wants to be.

The owner of Jacqueline Olivencia International Salon and spa has been in the business for more than 25 years, and recently made the move into a new location on South Main Street, Fairport after operating out of a salon at the Baird/Whitney Road intersection in Penfield for 18 years.

The new location opened its doors in December. But why was it necessary to move into a 90-year-old house?

“It wasn’t a need,” said Olivencia. “It was a great opportunity to be centrally located for my clients.”

The size of the building is roughly the same as the previous location, and has two floors of hair care, massage, waxing, and manicure stations.

Like many small business owners, it has been her goal to one day leave the days of paying rent behind and become more independent.

As she shows off the renovated interior, filled with calming natural light and earth toned walls, Olivencia breathes a sigh of satisfaction.

“Now I own it,” she said. “Now it’s truly a reflection of me and the business.”

She has stood behind the styling chair since age 16, the daughter of two well-regarded salon owners. Her work was published in industry trend setters Styles and Stylist and Passion Magazine, including coverage that would ultimately run in more than 80 countries worldwide.

Olivencia was also named “one of America’s top beauty experts” by Clear Channel Radio, and her salon and spa has been named a finalist in Modern Salon Magazine’s Salon-of-the-Year contest.

With a well-trained staff and customers pouring in by the day, Olivencia looks forward to a future doing what she does best.

“I love to be behind that chair,” she said. “I get paid to make people feel good.”
