Shipyard wins some awards

The Shipyard Brewing Company recently took a couple of medals home from the Australian International Beer Awards. Congrats.

Shipyard Brewing Company Wins Two Australian International Beer Awards

PORTLAND, MAINE  Shipyard Brewing Company received two awards at the 2012 Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) in Melbourne, Australia. AIBA is the showcase awards event in the Asia Pacific Region and, this year, 1,344 entries were received from 258 breweries across 41 countries.

Shipyard Brewing Company’s XXXX IPA was awarded a Silver for Imperial/Double IPA Packaged and Smashed Pumpkin took home a Bronze for Herb and Spice Packaged.

Both these beers are part of Shipyard’s award-winning Pugsley’s Signature Series, which is named after Shipyard’s master brewer, Alan Pugsley.

In 2011, Smashed Pumpkin earned a Bronze at this festival. In 2010, XXXX IPA was awarded a Bronze and Shipyard’s Pugsley’s Signature Series Imperial Porter gained a Silver. In 2007 and 2008 Shipyard’s Chamberlain Pale Ale took home Bronze and Silver medals.

XXXX IPA is a non-traditional American IPA with a brilliant copper color and the classic citrus nose of Cascade Hops. This beer demonstrates a unique balance of malt-inspired, delicate red grapefruit sweetness and lingering hop dryness. In 2011, this beer won first place for IPAs at the West Coast Brewers Festival and Best of the Northeast at the United States Open Beer Championships. In 2009, XXXX IPA won Silver Awards at the United States Open Beer Championships as well as the Stockholm Beer & Whiskey Festival.

Malt: Malted Wheat, Pale Ale, Crystal, and Caramalt

Hops: Cascade, Warrior, Summit and Glacier

70 IBUs

OG: 1.092

ABV: 9.25%

Smashed Pumpkin is a big-bodied beer with a light coppery orange color and pleasing aromas of pumpkin and nutmeg. The Pale Ale, Wheat and Light Munch malts combine with the natural tannin in pumpkin and the delicate spiciness of hops to balance the sweetness of fruit.

Malt: Wheat, Pale Ale, Light Munich

Hops: Willamette, Hallertau

OG: 1.088

ABV: 9.0%
