The Fairport-Perinton Chapter of Dollars for Scholars selected Fairport resident Sue O’Leary as the recipient of the 2010 Dollars for Scholars Fairport-Perinton Honor Award.
The award is given to an individual who has provided extraordinary support to Fairport-Perinton Dollars for Scholars. Through O’Leary’s continued support, numerous Fairport students have had the opportunity to further their higher education goals and achieve their dreams of receiving a college diploma.
Having served on the board and working directly with the scholarship committee for several years, O’Leary has been a major contributor in assisting with applications starting at about 40 in 1995 to 215 in 2009. Sue has been instrumental using her knowledge, initiative, and computer skills to redesign, improve and make the processing of applications more efficient.
Dollars for Scholars, a program of Scholarship America, is a national network of more than 1,210 grassroots community-based, volunteer-driven scholarship foundations in cities, towns and neighborhoods throughout the United States. The Fairport-Perinton chapter has a long standing history of partnering with the community to help Fairport seniors achieve their educational goals by providing funding in the form of scholarships. It is only with the support of individuals like Sue O’Leary that the organization can help as many students as it does.
The award was presented at the April Fairport Board of Education meeting.
