Fairport Central School District voters approved a $105.3 million budget by a margin of 843 votes: 1,878 to 1,035.
The $61,159,419 tax levy, or amount to be raised by taxes, will increase $204,588 from the current year. The tax rate will be $20.54 per $1,000 of assessed value.
Voters also re-elected school board members Ken Kathan and Maureen Nupp, who ran unopposed. Kathan received 2,247 votes, while Nupp received 2,294.
Nupp has served on the board since 1998 and is looking forward to another three-year term.
“I’ve been doing this for a few years now, and I really enjoy having the opportunity to meet so many great people and listen to a lot of the concerns people have,” Nupp said.
Kathan could not be reached for comment.
The district will reduce the equivalent of 6.5 full-time faculty and staff instructional positions due to retirements or declining enrollment. There will be a 30 percent reduction for field trips and a 5 percent reduction for sports equipment and supplies. There are no new programs or initiatives.
A proposition to authorize the district to expend $676,500 from the bus purchase reserve fund to purchase 13 replacement buses was approved by a vote of 2,007 to 899.
Residents also approved the $2.5 million Fairport Public Library budget by a margin of 2,105 to 791 and selected Mark Haefele as library trustee. He ran unopposed.
