East Rochester School District voters approved a $26.4 million budget by a margin of 170 votes on Tuesday, 372 to 202.
The $12,326,214 tax levy, or amount to be raised by taxes, will increase $61,324 from the current year. The tax rate will be $24.59 per $1,000 of assessed value.
Voters also re-elected school board members Kim Jackson and Sally Malone, who ran unopposed. Jackson received 460 votes, while Malone received 445.
Jackson is excited to serve her third three-year term.
“We’ve got a great budget, great board, a fantastic new superintendent, so I think it’s going to be a really wonderful year,” she said.
Her goals including helping the new schools chief Ray Giamartino Jr. to acclimate to the district and improving the graduation rate.
Malone, who has been on the board since 1998, could not be reached for comment.
The district is not reducing any jobs with the approved spending plan — though if someone leaves the district, the position may not be filled due to a Board of Education resolution requiring board pre-approval of any replacement of staff.
All budget codes were frozen at their current levels. Small reductions were made in supplies, staff development, travel and conferences.
