Kristi Boone will be coming home for Thanksgiving, but not just for turkey and pumpkin pie. She and husband Isaac Stappas will join the Rochester City Ballet for its annual production of “The Nutcracker,” which opens this weekend.
Boone, 29, grew up in Fairport and now lives in New York City, where she and Stappas dance for the American Ballet Theater. In the ballet, they play opposite each other as the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Cavalier.
It is the sixth year they’ve been doing the show with RCB, but both have been dancing together for over a decade. Despite their real-life romance, the couple say they enjoy working together in a professional environment.
“It’s a very enjoyable thing to have so much trust in your partner,” said Boone. “He’s one of the best partners I’ve had the chance to work with.”
Stappas, who grew up in North Carolina, says that living in the big city is nice, but coming back to Fairport for the holiday is a welcome break from the Big Apple.
“We love the city but it’s nice to go into the suburbs and get away from the hectic life,” he said.
