The 18th annual Rochester Irish Festival, held under a tent at Camp Eastman, 1301 Lake Shore Blvd., Irondequoit, got under way this past Friday, Sept. 7 and ran through Sunday, Sept. 9. The event included an opening ceremony, almost nonstop entertainment from bands and dancers near and far, a popular "men in kilts" contest Saturday afternoon, and even a Roman Catholic Mass yesterday morning, Sept. 9.
Headliners on opening night were The Mahones, an Irish rock and punk band from Canada that has released 10 CDs to date.
Rochester's own Dady Brothers closed out the festival yesterday.
Starting this Friday, Sept. 14, the festival tent at Camp Eastman will be host, for two weekends, to the 25th annual Oktoberfest in Irondequoit. Go to oktoberfestny.com for all the details.
