The Salvation Army of Greater Rochester recently reported that its fundraising efforts are down more than $50,000 when compared to the same point in time last year.
The nonprofit will need to raise more than $200,000 by Dec. 24 to meet its $450,000 goal. Maj. Doug Hart, executive director of The Salvation Army for Monroe County, said that the greatest need is for people to ring bells at kettles throughout the Greater Rochester area.
“We have hours still available at local malls and stores through Christmas Eve,” Hart said. “Community donations collected in Red Kettles are used year-round to help feed hungry families, shelter the homeless, invest in young people through youth enrichment programs and provide seasonal food baskets and toys.”
