The Genesee Valley Plein Air Painters will hold its 12th annual art show from Jan. 1 through Jan. 27 at the Barnes & Noble in Pittsford Plaza, 3349 Monroe Ave., Rochester.
The competition will include 75 original paintings created by artists in the Greater Rochester, Finger Lakes and Western New York regions. The show will include plein air paintings produced on-site throughout the U.S.
An artists’ reception and award ceremony will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 7.
Plein air painting is on-site painting in open air and natural light. Boats, rural barns, landscape vistas, gardens, cityscapes and waterscapes are all staple subjects in plein air art. Over 85 percent of each painting in this show will be produced on-site. Painting mediums include oil, water color, soft pastel, acrylic and gouache.
GVAP is an association of outdoor artists that promotes and inspires quality plein air painting. It currently has 45 artist members who live in the surrounding 10-county area of Rochester.
