Registration is open for Parks and Trails New York’s 19th annual Cycle the Erie Canal tour, an opportunity to bike across the state and take in the history of the canal that transformed America.
The eight-day, 400-mile recreational bicycle tour from Buffalo to Albany is scheduled July 9-16. This year marks the start of the bicentennial celebration for the Erie Canal.
Canal historians and local experts along the Erie Canalway Trail will introduce riders to the people, places and things that make the Erie Canal important to the state’s history and the nation.
Registration includes accommodations, meals, support and gear support and baggage transport, entertainment and historical presentations every evening and guided tours of the canal, historic sites, museums and other attractions. Shuttles will be available for an additional fee. Registration costs $760 for adults and $415 for youths ages 6-17 and non-cycling participants.
Four-day options are available from Buffalo to Syracuse and Syracuse to Albany. Two-day weekend options are available from Buffalo to Fairport and Canajoharie to Albany.
