The Mental Health Association, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the Reel Mind Theatre and Film Series and Rochester Psychiatric Center, 111 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, will sponsor a free presentation on suicide prevention at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 27 in the Rehabilitation Building at RPC, 1111 Elmwood Ave., Rochester.
Kim Van Orden, assistant professor of psychiatry at University of Rochester, will discuss strategies for helping prevent suicide. The program will include a Q&A session.
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. The goal of suicide prevention is to reduce factors that increase someone’s risk for a suicide attempt and to increase factors that promote resilience and coping. Attendees will learn facts and myths about suicide.
