Best Buddies International recently opened a western New York office based in Rochester through a $300,000 grant from the Golisano Foundation.
The new office at 1000 Elmwood Ave. joins programs in New York City, Albany and Long Island. Bonnie Webster will head the new regional office.
“We’re excited to help expand the Best Buddies friendship program in western New York,” said Ann Costello, executive director of the Golisano Foundation. “Its mission of friendship, inclusion and leadership for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities complements our ongoing efforts to help people reach their full potential and be provided with pathways to self-sufficiency and the best possible expression of their abilities and talents throughout their lifetimes.”
The nonprofit organization was founded in 1989 by Anthony Shriver to establish a global volunteer movement and create opportunities for friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
