The Delta Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. will celebrate its 70th anniversary at 11:30 a.m. March 11 at Hilton Garden Inn/University and Medical Center, 30 Celebration Drive, Rochester.
The sorority, chartered in 1947, focuses on health, education, social justice and human rights. Delta Nu Omega has awarded 145 scholarships totaling over $132,000 since 2000.
U.S. District Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange will speak at the celebration. Miles-LaGrange serves the Western District of Oklahoma, a position she has held since she was nominated in 1994 by former President Bill Clinton. She is a former regional director of the Midwestern Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
Delta Nu Omega will honor four community members at the event: the Rev. James Cherry Jr. and Antioch Baptist Church, Faith and Family Empowerment Award; Melissa Barrett, Trailblazer for Justice Award; Lovely Warren and the Office of Constituent Services, Leadership Award; and Alice Holloway Young, Pioneering Soror Award.
