Twenty-five years ago, the citizens of Arcadia, N.Y. rose up against powerful interests and defeated an attempt to sell the local landfill to Browning Ferris Industries (BFI), one of the largest trash haulers in the world at the time. A generation later, it’s happening again!

After passing a law banning landfills following the BFI fiasco, a law based on the will of its citizens, a new set of politicians and business interests are again trying to force our economically strapped community into taking hundreds of tons of other people’s garbage into a vastly expanded new landfill, while having its roads clogged, damaged and sullied by hundreds of trucks a day.

The Concerned Citizens of Arcadia, Inc., the group currently opposed to a new landfill, is made up of those who fought the landfill a quarter of a century ago, as well as those who were too young to fight, the last time an attempt was made to force a landfill down the throats of the citizens of Arcadia. They WILL defeat the big, powerful interests behind this new landfill scheme! It was a David and Goliath story then, and it remains so today.
