A Rochester woman has started a fundraising campaign to support the family of Heather Boyum, the Fairport teacher who was killed in a fatal crash last week.
A mother herself, Mary Jo Polito explains that she was inspired to help after hearing the family's heartbreaking story that unfolded last week.
Boyum was killed while riding her bicycle in Penfield on July 29.
"Raising money for this family won't bring Heather back, but maybe it can help in more ways than we know," wrote Polito on the fundraising web page.
So far, the campaign has raised nearly $5,000, which is half of its 10-day goal of $10,000.
