  • The victim struck and killed by a train in Fairport on Thursday has been identified in what appears to have been a suicide, police say.
According to police, 57-year-old Susan Cipolla was struck around 3 a.m. by an eastbound CSX train about half a mile west of Main Street.
Fairport Police Chief Maureen Chisholm said the train conductor saw Cipolla lying on the tracks but was unable to stop in time.
Chisholm said the incident appears to be a suicide and no charges will be filed against CSX.
This was not the first fatality to occur on the tracks in Fairport. The most recent death took place in December 2011 when witnesses saw a man jump in front of a train to commit suicide. Others have been killed, both intentionally and in accidents, by trains.
"This happens too often," said Chisholm.
Traffic on Main Street reopened after being shut down for about four hours on Thursday.
