  • East Rochester mayor Jason Koon confirmed today that he will not run for re-election this season as two current village trustees face off.
Democrat Fred Ricci will run against Republican Mike Flanigan. Both have been on the village board of trustees for 10 years.
Ricci was born in East Rochester and is a retired English and journalism teacher after working more than a decade in the ER and Fairport school districts.
He is now Deputy Mayor and served as Village Administrator from 2001 to 2004 and was appointed to the board of trustees last November to fill the seat left vacant by trustee Andrew Serrano. He lives in ER with wife Suzanne, and has three sons and six grandchildren.
"I am going to be able to apply the skills and talents I have that the village needs right now," he said Wednesday.
Flanigan has lived in the village for 20 years and currently works as an environmental manager for Stantec Consulting Services. He served as the deputy mayor for the village from 2005 to 2007, during which he was also chairman of the East Rochester Republican Committee.
"I want to continue improving our community so that East Rochester remains a great place to live and raise a family," said Flanigan, who lives on Hickory Street with wife Terry and two sons.
Koon, who was elected to office in 2007, would not comment on his reasons for not running for a second term.
